Customer Reviews
This is actually my second copy - my first copy was spotted by my father (lives in Australia) when he was visiting us over the summer. He couldn't put it down and I couldn't be so mean spirited as to take it back. It's a great book and a great resource as I know you've heard many times. I run a small machine shop and it's a great review tool to refresh the brain when looking for solutions to tricky fixturing problems.
Many thanks for sending a copy of your book. To be honest I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book in one evening. Excellent work!
It's like Texas chili, every bite packs a wallop. I got to the place where I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to read the next point and the next...and the next.
- Dan Kautz, Master Craftsman.
The book is fantastic. Although it is clearly meant for commercial shop machinists, I found that it is fully applicable to the home shop machinist (me) as well. It was a great read. The postal service delivered it at 10:00am one morning and I sat down and read the entire book straight through. It was fascinating to say the least. I have more than 100 machinist "how to's", "tips and tricks", manuals and reference books but none of them comes close, in my opinion, to the real-world usefulness presented in your book - especially from a home shop machinist point of view. It really is a great book. Thanks for writing it!
- Terry Ogletree, Home Shop Machinist
The best article on squaring blocks for beginners that I've seen. I wish I had this book when I was taking classes, because it's way better and more practical than any college text I've yet seen.
Machine Shop Trade Secrets is a winner! It’s the best all around reference material I have read on machining. It is beautifully written, easy to understand and packed full of great photos. From the professional machinist to the hobbyist, Machine Shop Trade Secrets is an invaluable resource for any shop. It’s quick to see that Mr. Harvey really knows his way around the machine shop and has a unique gift for putting his expertise into words that we can all understand. After reading this book, you will walk away with valuable tips that will save you time and money. I believe this book is a “Must Have” for every shop! Thanks, Mr. Harvey and I can’t wait for Volume II!
I have to mention a very good book for the novice and professional alike. ItÂ’s very informative and has a wealth of tips, tricks and how toÂ’s used in day to day functions of machine shops by industry and small shops alike........and is very applicable to the home shop machinist. Its bound to save you time, and trouble and give you the inside edge on lots of procedures that up until now were not generally available to the public ... these are the Secrets of the Trade. When I received my copy, I can honestly say, I had a hard time putting it down, and by the time I did put it down, I had read up to page 136. I am not normally into books, but this one is a must have. It has quite a few projects in the back which should prove to be very useful in any shop environment. Check it out...........Its well worthwhile!
The rave comments on your book are not exaggerated. I couldn't stop reading the book either and during the past weekend I have read it from cover to cover. Excellent! It's a pity our units of measurement differ so much. But that's something we simple mortals won't change, I guess. In that view I think I will redraw and “translate” the drawings of the tools at the end of the book. To make those tools myself, of course.
- Michel Christiaens
